All purpose flour – 4 cups

Baking powder – 1 teaspoon

Baking soda – Half teaspoon

Butter – Three quarters of a cup

Sugar – 1 to 1.5 cups

Add the above two in a bowl, cover the dough and chill the dough for at least 4 hours in the refrigerator. The dough may still be sticky but it is soft.

Take half of the dough and make rolls of it on a lightly floured surface into rope shape which are about half inch thick and around 8 inches long.

Cris cross the ends of the rope in a loop over the other on an ungreased cookie sheet or lightly floured surface giving itan oval shape and bake the cookies for about 6-8 minutes in a 350F preheated oven until the edges are lightly browned.

‘Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart’ is a famous song by Wham. Here are its lyrics:

Chorus:
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I’ll give it to someone special

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I’ll give it to someone special

Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognise me?
Well it’s been a year, it doesn’t surprise me

(Happy Christmas!) I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying “I Love You” I meant it
Now I know what a fool I’ve been
But if you kissed me now I know you’d fool me again

Chorus:
(Oooh. Oooh Baby)
A crowded room, friends with tired eyes
I’m hiding from you and your soul of ice
My God I thought you were someone to rely on
Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Oooh Oooh
Now I’ve found a real love you’ll never fool me again

Chorus:
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
(Gave you my heart)
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Next year
I’ll give it to someone, I’ll give it to someone special
special
someone
someone
I’ll give it to someone, I’ll give it to someone special
who’ll give me something in return
I’ll give it to someone
hold my heart and watch it burn
I’ll give it to someone, I’ll give it to someone special
I’ve got you here to stay
I can love you for a day
I thought you were someone special
gave you my heart
I’ll give it to someone, I’ll give it to someone
last christmas I gave you my heart
you gave it away
I’ll give it to someone, I’ll give it to someone

Here are the lyrics of the Musevisa song by Alf Prøysen. You can find the english translation of Musevisa here.

1. Når nettene blir lange
og kulda setter inn,
så sier vesle musemor
til ungeflokken sin:
“Hvis ingen går i fella,
men passer set for den,
skal allesammen snart
få feire jul igjen!”

Refrain
Heisan og hopsan og fallerallera!
Om julkvelden da
skal allesammen være glad!
Heisen og hopsan og fallerallera!
Om julekvelden da
skal allesammen være glad!

2. Ja, musemor er flittig,
hun tar et stykke kull
og sverter tak og vegger
i sitt lille musehull,
mens barna feier golvet
og danser som en vind
og soper borti krokene
med halem sin.

3. Omsider kommer kvelden
som alle venter på,
og musefar, han trekker fram
en støvel uten tå.
Den pynter de med spindelvev
og småspiker og sånn,
så putter de en flaskekork
i hempa på’n.

4. Og musefaren sier:
“Nå skal vi danne ring,
la støvlen stå i midten,
så går vi rundt omkring.
Vi gir hverandre halen
som vi kan leie i,
og en og to og tre,
og så begynner vi!”

5. Og julematen deres,
det er ei lita nøtt,
og så et stykke dropspapir
for den some liker søtt.
Og musemor har stillet opp
en fleskebit på skrå,
og den får allesammen
lov å lukte på.

6. Ja, musebestemora
er også kommet inn,
nå sitter hun og koser seg
i gyngestolen sin.
Det æ’kke or’ntli’ gyngestol,
d’er no’ som alle vet,
hun sitter der og gynger
på en stor potet.

7. Og bestemora gjesper
og sier slik som så:
“D’er morosamt med jula
for dessa som er små.
Hvis ingen går i fella,
men passer set for den,
skal alle om et år
få feire jul igjen!”

Musevisa (The Mouse Song in English) is a Christmas Carol in Norwegian language written by Alf Prøysen in the year 1946. Alf was himself a singer & songwriter and wrote the carol to a traditional Norwegian tune. This carol embarks the preparation of Christmas by a family of anthropomorphic mice where the mother is warning its children against the dangers of the mousetrap.

When Alf wrote the carol he was a bit worried over the use of mice in his carol which were considered to be a pest. But his friend Amljot Høyland convinced him to not worry and that his song would be accepted. Alf is known to have written an alternative ending for the carol but Musevisa became a huge success within a few days of presentation and became an instant classic.

Here are the lyrics of Musevisa in English. If someone has a nice translation of the song please send over to me at philiprae555 [at] gmail [dot] com.

1. When the nights are long
